I LOVE TSO!! My mate Jeff turned me onto these guys a while back. I have the two Christmas releases but not the final part of the trilogy yet, so i aint heard it. Bloody great band though.
Funny thing, their appeal is more or less as a heavier version of New Age. I'd consider them more along the lines of classical/metal, not that far removed from a lot of Euro Goth.
They're Mannheim Steamroller for the longhairs. I'll keep my opinions to myself out of respect. [img]wink.gif[/img]
Carl...I SWEAR I was going to post that to a lot of people, their appeal is that of a heavier Mannheim Steamroller.
Anyway, I like some of MS's music. Yes, I know it's basically one person with synths, which also dovetails in with "industrial". I like Fum, Fum, Fum. That is a rendering of a 15th century Christmas song.
It's originally Spanish, and has the most interesting drum patterns, kinda Chinnichap-ish.
I disagree about the MS comment (chip davis, no relation, btw, lives in omaha). TSO doesn't use heavy Christmas tunes. On their Christmas cds, they'll usually toss on one or two. Figuring they have approx. 22 songs per disc, that's not that much. It, of course, is all an offshoot of Savatage's Dead Winter Dead. Rock opera incorporating guitars and such.
